Description: As one of the more technical sports offered, Ice Skating has a core group of participants who train diligently for the State Championship, which is one of only three state competitions held during the work week. Many of the skaters come from Indianapolis Public Schools who do their training at Pan Am Plaza. Special Olympics Indiana-St. Joseph County also has a strong presence at this event, with a group of skaters who make the yearly trip for the Ice Skating Championship.Figure Skating and Speed Skating are the two sports offered at the Ice Skating State Championship. Participants may enter a maximum of two events. Both traditional and Unified Sports ® events are offered. Events range from the 111m speed skating race to Freestyle Competition in Figure Skating.
The Indy Speed, an Indianapolis speed skating club, provides volunteers who lend their expertise and act as judges on the ice.
