The Indiana Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg

The Indiana Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics plays an integral role in the annual Special Olympics Indiana Summer Games.

Every year on the first Friday in June, law enforcement officers from across Indiana carry the Special Olympics Indiana "Flame of Hope" from Indianapolis to Terre Haute in preparation for the annual Summer Games.  Their journey culminates with the lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremonies of Summer Games on the campus of Indiana State University.

This Law Enforcement Torch Run relay -- known as the Final Leg -- involves hundreds of officers from law enforcement agencies throughout Indiana.

In 2008, the Final Leg will kick off on the morning of Friday, June 6, with a special ceremony in downtown Indianapolis at Victory Field, home of the Indianapolis Indians.  Officers will light the "Flame of Hope" and begin the 70-mile trek to Terre Haute.  Together, they'll run or bike 20 segments in all.  That evening, they'll deliver the torch to the Opening Ceremonies of the 2008 Special Olympics Indiana Summer Games.

The Final Leg is a great way for law enforcement officers from across the state to join together and celebrate their many accomplishiments on behalf of Special Olympics and the more than 10,000 Special Olympics athletes in Indiana.
